Carolyn Martin

Designer Profiles

Carolyn Martin is an Australian Artist who creates handmade glass beads and jewellery in her home studio in Moranbah (a coal mining town in Central Queensland).

Fascinated by glass work, she chose to team her knowledge of jewellery design with the medium of glass in March 2005. Glass bead making allows Carolyn to visually express her interpretation of colours and textures to create individual and unique pieces of wearable art.

She predominantly uses quality Italian Effetre and Vetrofond glass to capture stunning colour combinations, patterns and themes and marvels at chemical reactions when coloured glass and silver fuse together in a molten state.

Her work was displayed in an Art Exhibition held in Melbourne in Dec 2006 and has also been showcased at the 2006, 2007 and 2008 Sydney Bead & Gem Shows. Her focal beads titled "Terra Australis - Cave Art" were runner up at the 2008 Sydney Bead & Gem Show. Her work was on display at the Gargett Gallery during Nov/Dec 2008 and is currently on display at the Hamilton Island Art Gallery.

Australian beading magazines have published her beads and various jewellery designs. She is a member of the Australian Glass Beadmakers Guild, the Australian & New Zealand Self-Representing Glass Beadmakers and the International Society of Glass Beadmakers. She was commissioned to create 100 Commemorative Beads for the 2007 Bead & Gem Shows held in Australian capital cities.

Her bead creations are greatly inspired by the colours of Australia in a free flowing organic style defined as contemporary abstract. Her beads are created for Australian and International jewellery designers as well as for use within her own jewellery pieces. Carolyn designs her beads under the “Katzeye Kreations” label and her jewellery under the “Katzeye Jewellery” label.

Carolyn’s glass beads can start with a jewellery design in mind but more often evolve from the natural inspiration that surrounds her. The diverse range of Australian landscapes from the ever changing coastline to the Outback interior, along with unique Australian flora and fauna, provide the inspirational palette for most of Carolyn’s works.

Carolyn sells her work through the Katzeye Kreations online store, Hamilton Island Art Gallery and Shows.
